As someone who loves concerts but isn’t able to attend them very much, I jumped at the chance to get tickets to go see AJR with my boyfriend. I’ll admit I’m not super familiar with their songs but I will honestly go to see pretty much anyone in concert with some exceptions. I really just love the concert atmosphere more than anything. And to be fair I was excited about the opening acts as well. There were three in total: Madilyn Mei, Valley, and Cavetown. I’ve never heard Valley’s songs before and I only know a couple of Madilyn Mei’s, but I am a huge fan of Cavetown so I was excited about that.
When we got to the venue we decided to get some merch and some dinner before the music started. The food was horrendously expensive (almost $20 for a couple of chicken strips and fries), which I suppose I should’ve expected.
My boyfriend and I bought matching shirts the last time we went to a concert together so we decided to keep the tradition going. I wanted both a Cavetown and AJR shirt but I was able to convince myself just to get the AJR one.
It was a perfect evening out and it wasn’t too hot which I appreciated. The sky was beautiful and the clouds were making fun shapes. I guess I’m bringing that up cause it’s relevant to the tour name, but regardless it was an ideal day for an outdoor concert.
We missed Madilyn Mei’s performance which I wasn’t too sad about, and Valley’s performance was unremarkable (they did a great job, I just didn’t know any of their songs!!). We were able to see Cavetown’s performance though! 10/10 songs and stage decor!! He played several of my favorites including Deviltown, Boys will be Bugs, and This is Home.
AJR was up next and for some reason it took them half an hour to come on stage. It may have been cause they were waiting for it to get completely dark out. It was still really cool to see them play in person though. I’m sure most of the people reading this are familiar with at least one of their songs, even if you’ve never heard of them as a band before.
We had to head out early because I started my job the next day at 6:40 am, but I greatly enjoyed all of it!
